The Belgrade China Cultural Center is located on the site of the former Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia that was bombed. As the first Chinese cultural center in the Western Balkans, it has witnessed the friendship between China and Serbia forged with blood and life, and served as a major platform for people in Serbia and neighboring countries to have in-depth understanding on Chinese culture. On June 17, 2016, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Serbian President Nikolić jointly attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the center. The project officially started in July 2017 and was constructed by Shandong Hi-Speed Group. Shandong People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Shandong Hi-Speed Group, with the center as the basis, will jointly build China (Shandong)-CEEC Youth Cooperation and Exchange Base (Serbia), hold such events as youth forums, economic and trade promotion, and cultural exchanges, focus on young people, demonstrate Shandong's new image of opening up, and expand people-topeople and cultural exchanges and business cooperation between Shandong and Central and Eastern European countries.
